Elsie Bernice Hickman, 92, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born March 13, 1923, in Jefferson City, a daughter of the late Carl Henry and Ophelia Pauline (Fischer) Schneider. She attended Central School and Simonsen School. On November 10, 1945, Elsie was united in marriage in Jefferson City, to Garnet Hickman, who preceded her in death on May 17, 1986. Elsie worked as a homemaker while raising their daughter. Later in life she worked with her husband at Hickman's TV Shop in which she and her husband owned. She also worked as hostess and helped prepare school lunches at South Elementary School and worked in the nursery at First Steps Preschool & Enrichment where she enjoyed rocking the babies. Elsie was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of First Christian Church Jefferson City for 69 years, where she was a past Sunday school teacher, lifetime deacon and a member of the Over 55 Group. Elsie enjoyed working outdoors taking care of her flowers. One of her many accomplishments was having a poem published in the National Library of Poetry. Her biggest joy in life, though, was spending time with her family and babysitting her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. Elsie is survived by: one daughter, Beverly (Don) Case; three grandchildren, Lori (Denny) Linhardt, Steve (Heather) Case, Kevin (Kim) Case; eight great-grandchildren, Alyson and Courtney Linhardt, Katelynn (Avery Pointer), Caroline and Mason Case, Madeline Roark, Kyle Hagemeyer and Kaylea Case; and one great-great-grandchild, Kaydence Pointer. She is also survived by: one sister, Ruth Popp; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; two sons, Raymond Hickman and Richard Hickman; one sister, Mildred Sundermeyer; and two brothers, Carl (Bud) Schneider and Clarence Schneider. Friends will be received from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. Beau Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
