Sammie Lee Turner, 74, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born December 23, 1938, in Mark Tree, Arkansas, the son of the late Willie Sr. and Emma (Paine) Turner. On February 4, 2008, he was united in marriage to Karen Galbreath, who survives at the home. Sammie was a laborer most of his life where he worked in construction and later with Scholastic where he retired. He was also a farmer in Neelyville, Missouri. Sammie was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed being a handyman and fixing things. He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling and watching boxing and family gathering where he was able to see all his family and friends. Along with his wife Karen, he is survived by eight children: Destiny Turner of the home, Stephan Galbreath (Jenni) of Jefferson City, Deborah Warren of Springfield, Yvonne Hubrin (BJ) of Poplar Bluff, Cornell Turner (Loretta) of Poplar Bluff, Annie Turner of Poplar Bluff, Tara Whitehead of Indiana, Brandon Whitehead of Indiana, and Keith Whitehead of Union; one brother: Willie Turner of Indiana; and tons of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five siblings: Mary Dallas, Rossetta Turner, Calvin Turner, Loretta Turner and Lawrence F. Turner. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Houser Millard Funeral Home where Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery.
