Ernest (Ernie) H. Hager, 82, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at his home with his wife Pauline by his side. Ernie was born April 1, 1932, in Russellville, the son of Fritz and Erma Hager. On May 31, 1958, Ernie was united in marriage to Pauline Moeller, who survives him. Early on Ernie spent many years working in the poultry business, followed by 21 years of service with Cole County Public Works, retiring in April 1996. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Russellville. Ernie was a hard worker, working alongside Pauline to maintain the home he loved so much. For many years he raised cattle and pigs for butchering for family and friends, and also a few chickens for eggs. In his younger days he loved to squirrel, rabbit and coon hunt, bringing the game home for a meal. He also enjoyed fishing, cutting wood and sitting on his porch swing. Ernie and Pauline spent many weekend evenings with friends dancing at the local VFW, where their favorite bands played. Ernie is survived by his daughter, Sharon Distler, Russellville; four grandchildren, Brandy (Chris) Scott, Eldon, Sherry Distler, Jefferson City, Vicky (Jeff) Mosley, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Joey Distler and his fiancÈe Michelle Scheidt, Russellville; and five great-grandchildren, Nick, Ethan and Carly Hendrix, Nathaniel Sullivan and Lauren Ngowi. He is also survived by two sisters, Matilda Blank, St. Joseph, and Marie (Leroy) Meisel, Jefferson City; and one niece, Linda Blank, along with great-nieces and nephews. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Hershel Blank; and niece, Carol Betts. Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Russellville with a Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
