Mrs. Eva M. Horstmann, age 99 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, September 20, 2013, at the Jefferson City Manor Care Center. Eva was born October 18, 1913, at Short Bend in Dent County, Mo., the daughter of Charles H. and Lulu M Duckworth Blackwell. She was married on May 28, 1934, in Webster Groves, Mo., to T.C. "Ted" Horstmann, who preceded her in death on December 27, 1985. A resident of Jefferson City for 74 years, Eva was a 1932 graduate of Salem High School, Salem, Mo. and a 1933 graduate in teacher training. A homemaker, Eva taught school in South Shady Grove School in Shannon County, Mo. from 1932 until 1933. She was employed as a licensed beautician and later in food services with the Jefferson City Public Schools for many years. She was a 74-year member of the Central United Church of Christ and was an active Sunday School Teacher, member of the Esther Circle, and President of the women's guild. Eva enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting, cross stitching, and embroidery. Survivors include: one son, Harold H. Horstmann and his wife Sharon of Lohman, Mo.; two daughters, Theora M. Hart and her husband Norman of Barrington, Ill. and Christine R. McMurry and her husband Charles of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Cara Leigh Eiseman, Julie Marie Noone, Alan Wade Horstmann, Mitchell Dean Horstmann, Amanda Christine Rigoli, and Adam Kendle McMurry; seven great- grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Hubert J. Horstmann on September 29, 2007; one granddaughter, Terrie Lea Horstmann on September 5, 1960; and two brothers, Wayne W. Blackwell and Glen C. Blackwell. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013, in the Freeman Chapel with Pastor Rusty Crutchfield officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Holts Summit, Mo.
