Craig Lee Davis, 75, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Jefferson City Manor. He was born August 4, 1937 in Fulton, Missouri, the son of the late Harry Leland Davis and Helen McIntire Davis Holmes. He was united in marriage to his second wife Jane Scheel. He was a 1955 graduate of the Lexington High School in Lexington Missouri. He served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1959. After basic training he was stationed in Frankfurt West, Germany and Beirut, Lebanon. Following his service in the United States Army he married Bonnie Helmig. Craig was an independent insurance agent and owned Craig L. Davis and Associates. He served his community as a Jefferson City Councilman for the 5th Ward from 1982 to 1990. He also served on the Board of Curators for Lincoln University, and Board of Directors for Charles E. Still Hospital. Craig had a passion for Republican politics helping with election campaigns for numerous candidates including Governors, then United States Senators, Kit Bond, and John Ashcroft and President Ronald Reagan. He loved going to the movies and spending time with his family. Along with his wife he is survived by his children: Tracey Allan Estes (Chris) of Centertown, Robert L. Davis of Jefferson City; Lezlie Dendy (Gary) of Dallas, Texas, and Jeff Scheel of Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Turner (Justin), Gabriel Davis, Madison Davis, Derek Estes (Sarah), Ryan Estes (Rebecca), Mary Beth Estes, Nathaniel Dendy, Noah Dendy and Willow Scheel; two great-grandchildren: Noah Turner and Caleb Estes; two brothers: Roy Davis (San CristÛbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico) and Jard Davis (Westminster, Colo.); one nephew: Jard Davis (San Francisco, Calif.). He was also preceded in death by his step-father: Manuel Holmes. Friends will be received from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home where full military honors will follow. Private family interment will be held at a later date at the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to Samaritan Center or Callaway Hills Animal Shelter.
