Wilbert J. Voss

Wilbert J. Voss, age 87, of Linn, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his residence. Wilbert was born October 1, 1925, in Linn, a son to the late Bernard and Agnes (Thoenen) Voss. Wilbert attended school at St. George Catholic School in Linn. He served in the United States Army during World War II where he earned four Bronze Stars. On May 23, 1953, he was united in marriage to Agnes Louise Klebba at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. She survives at the home. Wilbert was a lifelong area resident and worked as a truck driver for Opies hauling milk for 42 years. Wilbert was a member of St. George Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights. He was a charter member of Linn VFW Post #4756. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing, dancing, playing scratch off lottery tickets and puzzles. He also enjoyed flowers and gardening, eating popcorn and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. In addition to his wife of 60 years, Wilbert is survived by: his children, Gale Zitnik and her husband Dave of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gwen Voss of Jefferson City, Gay Guffey of Columbia, and Gordon Voss and his wife Lelia of Rogersville; five sisters, Bernie Mangels and her husband Jerry of Rocky Mount, Mary Ruth Pointer of Linn, Ester Paschal and her husband Melvin of the state of Texas, Betsy Edwards of Jefferson City, and Margaret Ann Mantle of Beaufort; two brothers, Bobby Voss and his wife Jean of Jefferson City, and Roger Voss and his wife Agnes of Linn; seven grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Zitnik, Jeremy Voss, Joshua Guffey, Jasmine Jones, and Billy and Trystin Voss; two great-grandchildren, Peyton and River Guffey; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Sallin, Helen Owens, and Jane Wilson. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Interment will follow in the St. George Parish Cemetery with full military honors. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. George Catholic Church or Linn VFW Post #4756.
