Mr. James D. Allen, age 79 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013, at home with family by his side. He was born at home on October 28, 1933, in Linn, Mo., a son of the late Paul and Caroline (Nilges) Allen. He was married on June 14, 1958, at St. Peter Church in Jefferson City, Mo., to Mary Weider. A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Jim served in the United States Navy from 1950 until 1954. While in the Navy, Jim took flying lessons and instrument training in his own Piper J3 Cub airplane He was employed with Fred Bode Floor Covering and Fuller Paint in Anchorage, Alaska. He owned and operated James D. Allen Floor Covering from 1981 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church; the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; the National Rifle Association; and the Eastside Business Assn. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and playing cards but, most importantly, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Mary Allen; four sons, Victor (Carole) Allen of Jefferson City, Mo., Ross (Miriam) Allen of Jefferson City, Mo., James (Claudia) Allen Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., and Guy (Amy) Allen of Seattle, Wash.; three daughters, Tina (John) Kiefner of Chicago, Ill., Caroline Allen of Estacada, Ore., and Cathy Allen of Costa Rica; two brothers, Perry (Helen) Allen of Harrisonville, Mo., and Charles Allen of Boulsco, Washington; three sisters, Patricia (Don) Eynard of O'Fallon, Mo., Paula (Don) Carter of New Bloomfield, Mo., and Sally (Lee) Gablesberger of Hallsville, Mo.; two brothers-in-law, Howard Mantle of Jefferson City, Mo., and Bill Lyddon of Columbia, Mo.; one sister-in-law: Evelyn Allen of Rich Fountain, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Kevin (Tina) Allen, Corey Allen(Samantha and Dylan), Ashley Allen, Seth Allen, Katie Allen, Emily Allen, Jared Allen, Sam Allen, Jack Allen, Natti Allen, and Alejandro Boza; and three great-grandchildren, Lyndsie, Liberty and Justice Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Allen, Maryland Allen, and one who died in infancy; and two sisters, Mary Lyddon, and Gay Mantle. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013, with a prayer service to be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Church with the Reverend Colin Franklin officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions the Parkinson's Foundation or Hospice Compassus.
