Martin (Marty) Martin, 78, of Jefferson City, formerly of Sandy Hook, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013, at his home. Marty was born July 2, 1934, in Lohman, Mo., the son of James K. and Mattie (McLaughlin) Martin. He was united in marriage on September 3, 1965, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Russellville, Mo., to Alice Faye Baker. Mr. Martin was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Marion, Mo. He was raised and attended school in the Lohman and Russellville areas. As a teenager and young adult he traveled with his family in several states picking seasonal crops and he always had a story to share about his experiences. Mr. Martin resided in Sandy Hook for 39 years where he enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as traveling, wood-working, listening to bluegrass music and spending time with his family and friends and watching old Westerns. He worked 33 years for various construction companies, retiring from Larry Berry Construction in March of 1998. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Alice F. Martin of the home; one son, Jack A. Martin and wife Amy of Jefferson City; two sisters, JoAnn Wiser of Russellville and Rosie Strobel and husband Richard of Centertown as well as several nieces and nephews. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and one brother August F. Martin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, Mo. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Cemetery, Marion, Mo. Officiating will be Pastor Frank Senter. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. ñ 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
