Jessie L. Dickerson

Jessie L. Dickerson, age 97, formerly of Lapel, Indiana, passed away August 14, 2013, at Summit Villa in Holts Summit, Missouri. She was born on February 6, 1916, in Madison County, Indiana, the daughter of William and Hazel Meeker. She was a 1934 graduate of Lapel High School. Jessie was married October 16, 1942, in Lapel Indiana to Neal F Dickerson who preceded her in death on January 30, 1985. Jessie worked for Delco Remy for 8 years before she became a homemaker. She was a resident of Lapel, Indiana, for 91 years and was very involved in a variety of community activities and organizations. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 92 years and served on the church advisory board, as well as other committees. She was a children's Sunday school teacher and a longtime member United Methodist Women. She belonged to the Nameless Bridge Club for 73 years, the Lady Lions Club, the Home Economics Club and the Women's Society of Christian Service. Jessie was a troop leader for the local Cub Scouts and Brownie Scouts. She worked as a clerk in the Lapel Drug Store for 17 years. Jessie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, whose life goal was serving others without notice. Jessie loved to laugh and live life to its fullest. She had many interests including reading, keeping up with local and national politics, needle work, bridge, cooking and traveling. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Ennis and her husband Dr. Jim Ennis of Jefferson City, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Ashley Greeno and her husband Chad of Shawnee, Kansas, Andrew Ennis and his wife Sara of Liberty, Missouri; and four great-grandchildren, Riley Greeno, Brady Greeno , Chase Greeno and Elizabeth Ennis. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Neal; her son, Kenneth N. Dickerson; three sisters, Martha Keesling, Mary Payne, and Alma Neese; and two special nieces, Mary E Neese and Sandra Neese. Visitation will be held at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel Indiana on Saturday, August 17, 2013, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a memorial services following at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 606, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0606.
