Mr. Paul Eugene "Gene" Corl Jr., age 78 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 4, 1935, in Sedalia, Mo., a son of the late Paul E. Sr. and Dorothy L. Peters Corl. He was married on April 24, 1952, in Harrison, Ark. to Veronica M. "Fronie" Kampeter. A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Gene graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1953. In 1967 Gene went to a training academy in Rolla, Mo. and became a Missouri State Trooper. He was employed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop F, for 26 years, retiring in 1993, and thoroughly loved his work. Before his career at the Patrol, he had served as a Driver's Examiner for 10 years, and also with the Missouri Highway Department for two years. Gene was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church, joining in 1972, where he was involved with the St. Peter Men's Association. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, Wears Creek Yacht Club, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2693. Gene was a devoted family man and thoroughly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing with his grandchildren on the farm. He cherished the memories of Boy Scouts with his sons, Camp Hohn and the big Scout Jamboree in Idaho taking the whole family in a Nimrod tent camper, and Mizzou football games supporting his son, Ben. He enjoyed coaching baseball and traveling with Fronie on various trips, cruises and he even enjoyed the casinos! He loved playing cards with his brothers-in-law, retired troopers and friends through his retirement. Survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Fronie Corl; his daughters, Geana (Martin) Godsy and Carla (Stephen) Trower of Jefferson City; his grandchildren, Nathan (Misty) Godsy of Jefferson City, Sasha (Steven) Kremer of Bonnots Mill, Mo., Andrew Godsy of Jefferson City, Samantha (Nathan) Davis of DeSoto, Mo., Alexandria Trower of Jefferson City and Jonathan Trower of Jefferson City; his great-grandchildren, Benjamin Godsy and Maddy Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Benjamin L. Corl on August 5, 1990, and Paul E. Corl III on July 21, 2010. Visitation will be at St. Peter Catholic Church from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Reverend Anthony Viviano officiating. Private graveside service and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery at a later time. Following Gene's wishes, his body was donated to the University of Missouri for anatomical study. His family would like to give a special thank you to SSM Hospice for all the wonderful care and compassion they showed Gene and his family the last three years.
