John Emil Carl Vieth III, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born February 11, 1930, the son of the late John Emil Carl and Opal (Cardwell) Vieth Jr. On February 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to Rosella Nichols, she survives at the home. John was a 1948 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He was employed as a Produce Manager at Kroger's for 34 years and then later worked in maintenance with the Missouri Highway Patrol Troop F. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. John enjoyed building things and could fix anything. He built his own home here in Jefferson City and was very proud of his family cabin he built at the Lake of the Ozarks. He one time made a garage door opener out of an old washing machine motor. He built many basement rec rooms for his friends throughout Jefferson City. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Along with his wife Rosella, he is survived by two children: Gary Vieth (Debbie) of Holts Summit and Sharon Benton of Jefferson City; seven grandchildren: Tera Hayden, Eric Vieth, Dakota Benton, Danny Tellman, Michael Tellman, Thomas Benton and Angel Toebben; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister: Jackie Baysinger. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 15, 2013, at the Trinity Lutheran Church where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Russ Bowder officiating. Entombment will follow in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Calvary Lutheran High School.
