Florence A. Gerling, 88, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center. She was born January 21, 1925, in Meta, Missouri, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Rose (Libbert) Connor. On November 29, 1951, she was united in marriage in Jefferson City, to Adolph M. Gerling, who preceded her in death on March 4, 2005. Florence worked for Scholastic Inc. as a supervisor for 20 years and the Defense Plant during World War II from 1942 to 1945. She was a member of Immaculate Conception catholic Church, where she was active in the Mother Seaton Group, Immaculata Club, St. Ann Sodality and the Prayer Line. Florence devoted her time as a volunteer helping St. Mary's Health Center. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. She also loved to spend time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Florence is survived by three sons: James T. Gerling (wife Rose) of Jefferson City, Michael L. Gerling (wife Wanda) of Holts Summit, Paul M. Gerling (wife Kimberly) of Jefferson City; one brother: Don Connor (wife Judy) of Jefferson City; one sister: Virginia Fisher of Florida; six grandchildren: Bridget Verplank (husband Jonny), Brandi Gerling, Jennifer Walleman (husband Matthew), Bradley Gerling, Jacob Gerling, and Allison Gerling; one great-grandchild: Ely Turpin. She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Pat Fetters and Mary Heimericks. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Msgr. David D. Cox and Deacon Tom Gerling officiating. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund, or the Helias Foundation.
