Nancy Jo Frappier

Mrs. Nancy Jo Frappier, age 78 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at her home. Nancy was born August 24, 1934, in Hannibal, Mo., the daughter of Charles Wesley and Georgia Belle Donaldson McIntyre. Mr. McIntyre was superintendent of the Hatch Dairy Experimental Farm, under the auspices of the United States Department of Agriculture and the University of Missouri's Department of Agriculture. Nancy and her brothers loved exploring the woods, climbing trees and riding their spirited pony, Blackie. Nancy attended Hannibal public schools and received an Associate of Arts Degree from Cottey College for Women in Nevada, Mo. and a Bachelor of Journalism Degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She was a reporter and wire editor of the United Press International in Dallas, Texas and a reporter for the Decatur Herald and Review newspapers, Decatur, Illinois. In 1960, she married Richard Schanbacher in Hannibal where they lived until moving to St. Louis County in 1965. In the St. Louis area, Nancy was a self-employed public relations consultant with extensive experience in publicity, promotion and special events for a variety of clients, some on a contract basis with Fleishman-Hillard, Inc. She developed the campaign to create the taxing district for the St. Louis Zoo, Art Museum, and Science Museum and the bond issue for the General Motors Plant in Wentzville, Mo. In 1982, Nancy was contacted by state officials, among them then-Governor Kit Bond, to organize a nonpartisan, nonprofit group of Missouri business leaders to supplement the state's economic development efforts. She named the organization the Hawthorn Foundation after the state flower. She said Hawthorn added the "sizzle and flair" to marketing Missouri for new business. She retired from Hawthorn in 1993. Nancy's Christian faith was very important to her. She was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She also served in various offices with the Gamma Phi Beta social sorority, Women in Communications, Chapter BR, PEO in Hannibal and Chapter HM, PEO in Jefferson City, Cole County Historical Society, Jefferson City Country Club's Ladies Golf Association, Council of the Arts, Century Study Club, The Tuesday Club, Rape and Abuse Crisis Service, and the Capital Region Medical Center Foundation. She loved to laugh, travel with her husband, read, play golf, cook and most of all be with her family and friends. She enjoyed all types of music, and for many years, she and her husband had season tickets to the St. Louis Symphony. In 1989, she married Jo Henri Frappier. Survivors include: her husband, Jo H. Frappier; her children, Andy W. Schanbacher of San Francisco, Calif. and Anne Marie (Todd) Hickey of Winter Garden, Fla.; three step-daughters, Bettina Frappier and her husband Jim Piazza of Trinity, Fla., Michelle (Steve) Chumley of New Port Richie, Fla., and Lisa Frappier of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren, Sara Wooten of Trinity, Fla., Madeline and David Scroggins of Tampa, Fla., Nathan, Connor, and Dylan Hickey of Winter Garden, Fla.; one step-granddaughter, Leah Chumley Cole of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, John Donaldson (Karol) McIntyre of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, David Wesley McIntyre. Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend David Henry officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City or the Capital Region Medical Center Goldschmidt Cancer Center.
