Lois Tremaine Hollerorth

Lois Tremaine Hollerorth, age 100 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Heisinger Bluffs. Mrs. Hollerorth was born on February 14, 1912, in Boone County, Mo., to Orville M. and Martha Margaret Bledsoe Tremaine. She was married on February 14, 1934, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Raymond "Bud" Hollerorth, who preceded her in death on November 12, 1987. Lois and Bud owned and operated the Southside Dry Goods store from 1948 to 1956. Lois volunteered for the American Red Cross for over 60 years and received the Heart of Hero award in 2005. She served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher at Central United Church of Christ. She volunteered locally for the P.T.A., Girl Scouts, and the Missouri Historical Society. Lois organized the Memorial Community Hospital Gift Shop and donated many hours at the shop. She was also an active member of Chapter JB, of the PEO Sisterhood. She was an avid bridge player, letter writer, and encourager. Lois attributed her strength, longevity, and blessings to God. Survivors include: one daughter, Judith Lynn Shepard of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Cheryl Swope and her husband Joseph of St. Genevieve, Mo. and Kevin Shepard and his wife Marilee of Hartland, Wis.; five great-grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Swope and Jackson, Julia, and Christian Shepard; one sister, Edith Johnston of Springfield, Mo.; nieces and nephews; and was a beloved friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; and one sister, Sadie Bell. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Sunday, September 2, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at the Evangelical Section of Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Central United Church of Christ or the American Red Cross.
