Wayne Monroe Crawford, 90, of Holts Summit, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, at his home. He was born January 21, 1922, in Trenton, Missouri, a son of the late Sublett Monroe and Grace Truman (Ream) Crawford. He was a graduate of Trenton High School in Trenton, Mo. and went on to graduate from the University of Missouri - School of Engineering in Columbia, Mo. On July 22, 1951, Wayne was united in marriage to Alice Jean Christ, who preceded him in death on May 3, 1970. Wayne worked as a Civil Engineer for the Missouri Department of Highway & Transportation from 1950 - 1970. He also worked for the United States Forestry Service for over five years. Wayne was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and served in the Western Pacific during World War II. He was a Radio Operator on a B-24 Liberator Bomber, and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Staff Sergeant. Wayne enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and his pets, especially Sly and Rosie. He loved his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren always brought a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eye. Wayne is survived by four children: Grace Vincent (husband Robert) of Kempner, Texas; Sandra Crawford of Holts Summit; Paul Crawford of Jefferson City; Donna Haslag (husband Kevin) of Jefferson City; one sister: JoAnn Bernier; five grandchildren: Kara Hiatte of Jefferson City; Charles Vincent (wife Ashlynn) of Ft. Stewart, Ga.; Cooper Peck of Jefferson City; Levon Peck (fiancÈ Krystal Haines) of Jefferson City; Rachel Haslag of Jefferson City; six great-grandchildren: Autumn Vincent, Kaylee Hiatte, Sierra Vincent, Riley Hiatte, Katie Vincent, Payton Robinett. He was also preceded in death by nine siblings: Harold Crawford, Vernon Crawford, Dale Crawford, Jewel Cherry, Donald Crawford, Eugene Crawford, Dorothy Lehr, William Crawford, Richard Crawford. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton.
