Mary Coots

Mrs. Mary Ellen "Peg" Coots, age 92 years, of Elston, Mo., died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Moniteau Care Center, California, Mo. Peg was born May 17, 1920, in Elston, Mo., the daughter of Elzie and Beulah Lillian Wade Smith. She was married on February 15, 1936, in Mexico, Mo., to Emmit F. Coots Sr., who preceded her in death on August 31, 1995. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Peg was a homemaker for the majority of her life. She was a member of the Elston Baptist Church. Survivors include: one daughter, Peggy L. Coots Runkle and her husband Bobby of Lohman, Mo.; one son, Emmit F. Coots Jr. and his wife Mary Jane of Jefferson City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Alan Runkle and his wife Carla, Harold Coots and his wife Lisa, Paul Coots and his wife Di-Anne, Julie Coots Wiser and her husband Brad, Randy Runkle and his friend Kelly, and Richard Runkle and his wife Stephanie; 11 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Aaron, Justin, Marissa, Alicia, Amber, Ellen, Steven, Thomas, and Illyana; four great-great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Rylee, Carter, and Aleijeah; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmit; five brothers, Dale "Mutt" Smith, Guy "Wack" Smith, Louie "Jack" Smith, Ray Smith, and Harold Smith; and three sisters, Norma "Tot" Hartley, Eula Mildred Smith, and Norma Myrene "Becky" Scheer. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 17, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 17, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Don Fankhauser officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at the Elston Cemetery, Elston, Mo. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Friends of the Elston Cemetery or the charity of the donor's choice.
