Dorothy G. McDaniel-Franklin, age 79, of Eldon, died Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehab following a lengthy illness. She was born February 15, 1932, in Eldon, the second daughter of the late Joe E. and Mildred I. (Ledbetter) Brown. Dorothy was a homemaker and a life-long resident of Eldon. She graduated from Eldon High School in 1949. On September 1, 1951, in Harrison, Ark., she was united in marriage to Edward McDaniel, who preceded her in death on May 4, 1974. To this union two children were born: Laura Elaine and David Edward, both deceased. On June 25, 1980, she married Kelly Franklin, who also preceded her in death. Dorothy was an active member of the Aurora Springs Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a tireless supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, having lost both of her children to this disease. Dorothy was a wonderful Christian lady who touched the lives of many people and everyone who knew her was blessed in some way by her compassionate and unselfish love. Those who survive her include: three sisters, Betty Holiman and husband Billy of Muldrow, Okla., Ellen Golden and husband Joe of Eldon and Donna Knife and husband Billy of Jefferson City; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many other friends and relatives. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Pastor John Dearing will officiate. Interment will be in Dooley Cemetery near Eldon. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Aurora Springs Baptist Church.
