Anna E. Butler

Anna E. Butler, of Lee's Summit, Mo., formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., went to her heavenly home, Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the John Knox Village Care Center, Lee's Summit, Mo. She was born July 21, 1922, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Philip and Anna Humpich Angier, both deceased. She married on May 7, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Rev. Charles D. Butler, who preceded her in death on December 9, 2003. Mrs. Butler obtained degrees from Southwest Louisiana University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Southeast Missouri State University. She received a Masters of Religious Education degree and a Masters of Teaching degree. She gave private voice lessons over the years as well as teaching at several elementary and secondary schools in Southeast Missouri and the St. Louis area and at several universities including Lincoln University. She was also a Laubach tutor and tutor trainer and was an original Board member for the Adult Basic Literacy and Education (ABLE) program in Jefferson City. Mrs. Butler was active in various Baptist churches around the state. She often served as church choir director and held varied offices in each church's Women's Missionary Union. She also served on the Missouri WMU Executive Committee. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lee's Summit, Mo. and Sigma Alpha Iota, national music fraternity. Survivors include: her sons and their wives, Phil and Linda Butler of Annandale, Va. and Steve and Cheryl Butler of Mons, Belgium and Lee's Summit, Mo.; four grandchildren, Stephanie Wasson, Amanda Butler, Natalie Fetsch, and Christopher Butler; five great-grand- children, Nathan, Carolyn, and Charles Jacob (C.J.) Wasson and Ella and Claire Fetsch; and a niece, Margaret "Maggie" Harris. She was preceded in death by her sister, Eugenia Margaret Harris, on June 15, 2004. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
