Alberta Mae Harris, 86, of Macon, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010, at University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia, Mo. Alberta was born on October 21, 1924, the daughter of the late Claudine and Monty Grant. She was married May 3, 1941 to J.R. Harris, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Harris was a lifelong resident of Macon. She was a member of Holy Trinity Baptist Church of Macon. Mrs. Harris was a home maker who later in life worked as a teacher's aide for Macon Public Schools. She enjoyed supporting community and church activities, singing in the choir, going to garage sales and reading. She is survived by three daughters, Debra West, with husband Irvin West of Jefferson City, Dawna Harris of Hutchison Kan., and Jerri Harris of Atlanta, Ga.; six sons, Michael Harris of Hollywood, Calif., Hubert Harris, with wife Elaine of Omaha, Neb., Herman Harris of Macon, Kerry Harris, with wife Anita of Jackson, Tony Harris of Columbia, and Kevin Harris, with wife Lisa of Lenexa, Kan.; 15 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews cousins and friends. One daughter, Shirley Harris, preceded her in death. Other survivors include three sisters, Aileen Barnes of Topeka, Kan., Lois Reeves of Long Beach, Calif., and Mary Jacques of Moberly; and one brother, Monty Grant Jr. of Macon. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, with Rev. Dion Randolph officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Macon. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Holy Trinity Baptist Church, 807 S. Rutherford, Macon.
