James Bax

James Joseph (Jimmy) Bax, 46, of California, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Moniteau Care Center, where he had been a resident for the past 2 Ω weeks. He was born April 30, 1963, in California, the son of Emil H. and Agnes J. (Nilges) Bax and lived in California most of his life. Being born with Down's syndrome, he was a very special child. Many lives were touched by his special love. Jimmy attended State Training Center #3 in Jefferson City. He worked at the Sheltered Workshop in Jefferson City for many years. After moving to Sedalia, he worked at Ewing Work Shop, Tyson's, and Hays Wheels. He also attended State Fair College evening classes. Moving back to California in 2003, he volunteered at California Care Center for several years. He lived at the Deerbrook Apartments since they opened in 2003. Jimmy was a member of Moniteau County Association for Retarded Children, and also a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in California. Jimmy's faith and love was that of a trusting child. His family, church, and friends were the center of his life. He taught us how to love and act by his love and kind actions. He is survived by eight sisters: Leona Bax of Independence, Georgia McConkey and husband Paul of Loveland, Colorado, Mary Foster of Merriam, Kansas, Carolyn Schmidt and husband Danny of Sweet Springs, Sharon Rustemeyer of Salisbury, Sandy Bestgen and husband Wade of Greenwood, Irene Hoback and husband Jim, and Diana Kusgen and husband Glen, all of California; four brothers: Leon and wife Becky of Jefferson City, Mark and wife Jennifer of Henley, David and wife Winnie, and Dale and wife Jackie, all of California; one brother-in-law: Eddie Martin of California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin infant brothers: Jerry and Gary Bax; infant sister: Rosemary Bax; and one sister: Loraine Martin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in California. Burial will be in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. Officiating will be Monsignor Greg Higley. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 26, from 6:00 p.m. n 8:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, with a Rosary at 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Annunciation Catholic Church Building Fund, 404 W. Patrick, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
