James Joseph Wilde

James Joseph Wilde, 82, of Freeburg, departed this life Sunday, February 21, 2021, at his residence. He was born September 10, 1938, at Freeburg, a son of Alphonse Phillip "Soupy" and Apollonie Elizabeth "Leona" (Rehagen) Wilde. He entered the United States Army on March 3, 1957, at St. Louis, Mo., and served until he was honorably discharged at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., at the rank of Private E-2 (P). Prior to his discharge, James was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 1st Training Regiment Engineer, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and his "Honorable Discharge" is a testament of patriotic service to his country. He was united in marriage September 12, 1959, at Koeltztown, to Julia Ann Borgmeyer, and to this union six daughters were born. James was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post 317, and the Lions Club, all in Freeburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Cardinal baseball, wrestling, Pinochle, and the casinos. During his working life, he was employed by the Western Catholic Union, the Amway Company, the McGraw-Edison Company for 25 years, and the Missouri Department of Corrections for 25 years, prior to his full retirement. Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Wilde include: His wife of 61 years, Julia Wilde, of the home near Freeburg; his six daughters, Roxie Loehner (Mark), Koeltztown; Charlotte Ingles (Ray), Barnett; Cindy Bender (Jonnie King), Poplar Grove, Illinois; Debbie Crider (John), Freeburg; Janice Wilde (Keegan Bryan), Freeburg; and Diane Kolb (Greg), Wardsville; his siblings, Arline Laubert, Freeburg; Eugene Wilde (Barb), Freeburg; Leroy Wilde (Sharon), Wardsville; and Norbert Wilde (Cindy), Holts Summit; brother-in-law, Ronald Borgmeyer (Alma); sister-in-law, Lillian Falter; and great-aunt, Sophie Wilde, all of Koeltztown; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Wilde was preceded in death by one son-in-law, George Siebert Jr. (5-26-1989); his father, Alphonse "Soupy" (11-3-2001); his mother, Leona (6-3-2010); his in-laws, Fred Borgmeyer (1-31-1979) and Sabina (Luebbert) Borgmeyer (4-22-1998); great-uncle and known as "Buddy" to his nieces, Raymond "Wimpy" Wilde (10-14-2012); and two brothers-in-law, Albert "Al" Laubert Sr. (1-6-2007) and Lawrence Falter (10-8-2020). Visitation for Mr. James J. Wilde will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, 104 Oliver Street, Freeburg, MO 65035, with his Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Rev. William D. Debo as the celebrant, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, with his grandsons, Austin Loehner, Clinton Loehner, David Huffman, Jaden Kolb, Zabari Wiles, Chase Bonine, Mitchell Wilde, Andrew Wilson, and Tyler Wilson, serving as pallbearers.
