Hugo J. Brandt, age 91, of Linn, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at General Baptist Nursing Home in Linn. Hugo was born December 28, 1929, in Linn, a son to the late Ben and Anna (Vasen) Brandt. He attended school at St. George Catholic School in Linn. Hugo served his country in the United States Army. On July 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Reta Keilholz at Most Scared Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Chamois. She survives of their home. Hugo was a self-employed farmer. He started Brandt Chain Saw business in 1963 and retired in 1991. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Frankenstein and St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Hugo enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, playing cards, watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, going to the casino and spending time with his family. In addition to his spouse of 68 years, he is survived by: seven children, Melvin Brandt and his wife Patsy of Chamois, Nelson Brandt and his wife Jean of Chamois, Marie Heston and her husband Mark of Keokuk, Iowa, Jane Dudenhoeffer and her husband Mark of Linn, Linda Fick and her husband Matt of Linn, Patricia Haslag and her husband Jim of Linn, and Dennis Brandt and his wife Carol of Chamois; 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Brandt and his wife Annabell of Chamois; a sister-in-law, Bernadine Brandt of Linn; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one son, Dale Brandt; an infant daughter, Jennifer Brandt; a son-in-law, Kurt Hackmann; and two brothers, Leo Brandt and Alphonse Brandt. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021, at St. George Catholic Church with Fr. Colin Franklin as the Celebrant. Interment will be in St. George Parish Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. George Catholic School in Linn or St. Mary's Catholic School in Frankenstein.
