Leander Anthony Bax

Leander Anthony Bax, 93, of Jefferson City, formerly of St. Anthony, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at The Timbers in Holts Summit. He was born May 26, 1926, in St. Elizabeth, a son of the late Bernard H. and Anna E. (Eichholz) Bax. On February 21, 1949, he was united in marriage at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in St. Anthony to Eleanor Bax, who preceded him in death. Leander attended St. Anthony School. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946. Leander obtained the rank of Corporal during his service. He was a member of the IBEW for over 60 years. Leander was an electrical lineman and farmed with his wife, Eleanor. Leander enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, playing cards, throwing horseshoes and hunting turkey and deer. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Leander was a member of the VFW, Missouri Corn Growers Association and The National Farmers Association. He served on the St. Elizabeth School Board. Leander is survived by his children: Charlotte Curry (Gary) of Lebanon, Daniel Bax (Carlene) of St. Martins, Carol Struemph (Frank) of Villa Ridge, Sharon Crider (Sam) of Jefferson City; sister: Rosalie Gudeman of St. Anthony; grandchildren: Randy Curry, Ryan Curry, Christopher Curry, Dana Fairchild, Aaron Bax, Michael Bax, Sarah Adams, Emily Haarmann, Erica Wargo, Bryan Crider, Krista McCormack, Meghan Gerstner; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings: Arthur Bax, Zita Otto, Agatha Pfeiffer, Edmund Bax, Christine Miesner, Josephine Green, Gregory Bax, Elmer Bax, and great-grandchildren: Sean Fairchild and Justin Curry. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Additional visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in St. Anthony, Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in St. Anthony, Missouri, with Fr. Joby P. Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church Parish or St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery Fund.
