Helias, Blair Oaks hold spots in football rankings

The Helias Crusaders and Blair Oaks Falcons held onto their positions in this week's Missouri Media Rankings released Monday night.

Helias (8-1) remains at No. 6 in Class 5 after last Friday night's 47-9 victory against Vianney in St. Louis. Helias is the No. 2 seed behind third-ranked Holt (9-0), with both receiving first-round byes in District 4.

Helias will host either third-seeded Washington or sixth-seeded Capital City in the district semifinals Friday, Nov. 5. The district title game is scheduled for Nov. 12.

Blair Oaks (7-2) stays at No. 8 in Class 3 after defeating School of the Osage 71-43 last Friday night. The Falcons and Indians will meet again this Friday in the opening round of District 5 play at the Falcon Athletic Complex in Wardsville.

Mexico, the district's top seed who has a first-round bye, received votes in this week's rankings. Boonville, ranked No. 6 in the state, is the second seed in the district and will face Fulton.

The district semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 5, with the title game slated for Nov. 12.

Heading into the postseason, there are two unanimous selections as the No. 1 team in its class - St. Mary's in Class 3 and Lamar in Class 2.

Smithville received nine of the 10 first-place votes in Class 4, with No. 2 MICDS getting the other.

Two of the other three classes have the No. 1-ranked team receiving six first-place votes, with the No. 2 team getting the other four.

C.B.C. tops the Class 6 rankings, with Liberty North holding down the No. 2 spot. In Class 5, Jackson is No. 1 ahead of Carthage.

In Class 1 Mid-Buchanan (six first-place votes) and Windsor (four first-place votes) are tied for the No. 1 spot.

These are the final rankings until after the state championship games.
