Prep Softball: Fatima 11, Osage 2

VERSAILLES - The Fatima Lady Comets secured a 20-win season Wednesday with an 11-2 first-round win against the School of the Osage Lady Indians in the Class 3 District 5 Tournament.

Taylor Baumhoer was the winning pitcher in relief for the Lady Comets. In four shutout innings, she allowed one hit and struck out seven without yielding a walk.

Chayce Gier pitched the first three innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six without a walk.

Leading 3-2 after three innings, Fatima scored four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull away from Osage.

Kinzey Woody led the Fatima offense with three hits and three RBI, while Allison Schwartze had two hits and two RBI. Ellie Brune and Faith Jaegers each added two hits and Chesney Luebbering had a pair of RBI.

Osage ends with a 7-20 record.

Fatima (20-6), the No. 2 seed and seventh-ranked team in Class 3, advances to play No. 3 seed and eighth-ranked Versailles (18-8) at 7 p.m. today in the semifinals. Versailles topped California 10-1 in Wednesday's first-round action.
