Prep Baseball: New Bloomfield 3, Vienna 1

VERSAILLES - Breycin Dysart pitched a complete game Monday, leading the New Bloomfield Wildcats to a 3-1 win against the Vienna Eagles in the first round of the Class 2 District 9 Tournament.

The contest was moved from Vienna to Versailles due to wet field conditions.

Dysart needed just 88 pitches to get through seven innings. He allowed one run on five hits with no walks and 12 strikeouts.

Vienna's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run to left field by Nathan Kleffner.

New Bloomfield broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning, when Dysart hit a two-out single to right field, scoring Brendon Carter and Lucas Buscher.

The Wildcats' other run came in the sixth on Ashton Schuster's double to center field, scoring Michael Saleny to make the score 3-0.

Schuster had the only mulithit game for either team, adding a single to finish 2-for-3 at the plate.

Each team finished with five hits. Trevor Jordan and Buscher each singled for the Wildcats' other hits, while Owen Kloeppel had a double and Lucas Magner, Colin John and Landon Parmeley each singled for Vienna's other hits.

Kleffner was the losing pitcher for Vienna (9-11), walking four and striking out five on 98 pitches in seven innings.

New Bloomfield (9-12), the No. 5 seed, advances to play top-seeded Iberia (17-1) - ranked No. 1 in Class 2 - in the semifinals at 3 p.m. today in Vienna.

Second-seeded Eugene (15-5), ranked No. 7, will face third-seeded Russellville (17-7), ranked No. 6, in the other semifinal game at 5:30 p.m.
