Blair Oaks girls win four events at district track and field meet

MONTGOMERY CITY - The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons won four district titles Saturday, leading to a third-place finish as a team in the Class 3 District 4 meet at Montgomery County High School.

Blair Oaks totaled 100 points, trailing Centralia's 137 points and Montgomery County's 112.

Emily Sporleder was a quadruple-winner for the Lady Falcons. Individually, she placed first in the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run.

In the relay events, Sporleder, Natalie Heckman, Kati Schoeneberg and Ansley Casey won the 4x800-meter relay, while Sporleder, Kaelin Forck, Casey and Payton Mitchell finished first in the 4x400-meter relay.

Mitchell qualified for sectionals in four events. In addition to the 4x400, she helped the 4x200-meter relay, along with Aubrey Hardwick, Chelsi Forck and Kaelin Forck, to a fourth-place finish. Individually, Mitchell took second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the 100-meter hurdles.

Other sectional qualifiers for the Lady Falcons include Hardwick, who placed third behind Mitchell in the 300 hurdles, and Abbi Wieberg, who took second in the discus.

The Eldon girls finished fourth behind Blair Oaks with 97 points, with most of their scoring coming in the field events.

Finishing in first place for the Lady Mustangs were Zoe Martonfi in the triple jump, Cassidy Prater in the javelin and Taylor Henderson in the discus. Martonfi was a double-winner for Eldon, also claiming the title in the girls 300 hurdles.

Martonfi qualified for sectionals in three events, adding a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles.

Also in the field events for the Lady Mustangs, Patricia Patton took second in the shot put, Addie Davis was third in the javelin, Camryn Marriott placed fourth in the high jump and Heather Harbison finished fourth in the pole vault.

The Fatima girls were next among area teams in the district standings, finishing seventh with 54 points.

The Lady Comets advanced three relay teams to sectionals. The 4x800 relay of Bridgette Veit, Emma Bower, Sarah Groene and Rachel Temmen finished third, the 4x200 relay of Veit, Rachel Woehr, Caleigh Huot and Maria Juergensmeyer placed third and the 4x100 relay of Veit, Huot, Woehr and Alexandra Kliethermes came in fourth place.

Huot was a sectional qualifier in four events, adding fourth-place finishes in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Other individuals advancing for the Fatima girls were Corinn Karst, who took third place in the high jump, and Woehr, who finished fourth in the 400.

Versailles' Maris Ollison is the Lady Tigers' lone sectional qualifier, taking second in the girls javelin to account for eight of the team's 13 points in the final standings.

On the boys side, Versailles led the area teams with a third-place finish of 97.5 points. Centralia swept the district titles with 152 points, while Southern Boone was second with 104.

The Tigers won three district titles, as Allan Rhorer won the boys 400, Justin Hamrick took first in the long jump and Michael Bell finished first in the triple jump. Hamrick also placed second in the high jump.

Other individual sectional qualifiers for Versailles were Max Coleman, who placed third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 200, and Kyle Flieger, who finished fourth in the 100.

In the 4x200, Versailles' Nathaniel Buckler, Mikahil Gulyayev, Bell and Coleman came in fourth place.

Area teams accounted for all four sectional-qualifying times in the boys 4x800.

Fatima won the relay with Tyler Kloeppel, Gavin Satterfield, Scott Sankey and Michael Kloeppel.

Versailles was runner-up in the relay with Seth Newton, Zachary Radefeld, Dagan Haggerman and Rhorer.

Blair Oaks placed third with Thomas McCauley, Dex Crane, Nick Stover and Levi Frisbie.

Eldon claimed the final spot with a fourth-place finish from Aidan Gerber, Dakota Collins, Tevin Eldridge and Nathan Reynolds.

In the boys team standings, Blair Oaks was sixth with 54 points, Eldon was eighth with 38, Fatima was 10th with 29 and California was 11th with 24.

Blair Oaks qualified two individuals for sectionals in the boys pole vault, as Luke LePage was second and Jayden Purdy finished fourth. Other sectional qualifiers for the Falcons were Frisbie, who was third in the 800, and DeVonte Sanders, who finished fourth in the discus.

Reynolds qualified for sectionals in three events to lead the Mustangs. In addition to the 4x800, Reynolds was third in the 3,200-meter run and fourth in the 1,600-meter run.

Eldon advanced two athletes in the boys shot put, as Colton Phillips placed second and Jasper DeGraffenreid placed third. Philippe Bledsoe added a third-place finish in the discus for the Mustangs.

In addition to the 4x800, Fatima's only other boys sectional qualifier was Easton Haslag, who placed second in the javelin.

The California boys advanced to sectionals in three events, as David Leon was third in the 400 and Will Pickering was third in the high jump. The Pintos' 4x100 relay of Drake Schlup, Zachary Luebbert, Leon and Eli Dunnaway also came in fourth place.

The top-four finishers in each event advance to Saturday's sectional, which is also at Montgomery County, against qualifiers from District 3.
