MOKANE - The Capital City boys and girls teams swept the titles Friday at the South Callaway Relays.
The boys won seven events and posted 170 points, while the girls won a total of eight events and finished with 159.5 points. Harrisburg was runner-up, as the boys scored 121 points and the girls tallied 112.5 points.
Kiara Strayhorn was a quadruple-winner for the Capital City girls. On the track, she won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.30 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 48.43 seconds. In field events, Strayhorn placed first in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches, and the long jump, leaping 18-8.75.
Capital City won six of the seven girls field events. Shayla Stewart won both the discus (129-6) and the shot put (37-7.75), while Anastasia Koopman placed first in the pole vault (9-5.5) and Kennedy Schanuth took home the title in the javelin (115-5.5).
The Capital City boys won three of the four relays. Opening the track events in the 4x800, Sincere Davis, Braden Voss, Keion Grieve and Ben Lear posted a first-place time of 8:28.94.
Emmanuel Borde-Koufie, Connor Hull, Grieve and TJ Dyer had a time of 1:32.69 in the 4x200, while Borde-Koufie, Hull, Cameron Harrison and Colton Sheehan clocked a time of 44.47 seconds in the 4x100.
In individual events, Davis won the boys 400-meter dash in 52.26 seconds, Grieve edged New Bloomfield's Caleb Distler to win the 800-meter run in 2:00.85 and Hull posted a first-place time of 22.99 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
Mathew Boyer added a win in the discus for the Cavaliers with a throw of 133-7.5.
South Callaway's Brendon Mealy was a double-winner on the boys side, helping the Bulldogs to a sixth-place finish with 45 points. Mealy won the javelin with a throw of 148-11 and also took first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 11-5.
The New Bloomfield boys, who took fourth place with 69 points, had a pair of first-place finishes. Nathan Hinrichs won the 3,200-meter run in 9:45.92 and Adam Deppe won the long jump with a leap of 20-11.25.
California was fifth in the boys standings with 58 points, as Will Pickering finished first in the high jump, clearing 5-7.75.
The Calvary Lutheran boys had 44 points to place seventh. Kyle Hagemeyer won the 1,600-meter run in 4:28.61.
On the girls side, South Callaway was sixth out of 12 teams with 58.5 points. Raegan Brown won the 200 with a time of 27.68 seconds.
Maddie Homfeldt finished first in the 400 with a time of 1:03.87, helping the Calvary Lutheran Lady Lions to a ninth-place team finish with 37 points.
