Weather delays Friday games for Post 5 teams

Rain across the state Thursday night and well into Friday postponed all baseball games for Jefferson City Post 5.

The Post 5 Juniors, who are hosting the Missouri American Legion AA Zone 1 Tournament, made it into the bottom of the second inning Thursday night against Chillicothe Post 25 before lightning and rain suspended play.

That game was scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. Friday, but overnight rain postponed all Zone 1 Tournament games until today.

Jefferson City and Chillicothe will not resume their game, as Chillicothe opted to drop out of the tournament Friday.

Jefferson City will now face Washington in a best 2-of-3 series for the title. Games are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. today.

If necessary, a deciding third game is slated for 10 a.m. Sunday.

The Post 5 Freshmen had their elimination game against Ste. Genevieve Post 150 postponed a day.

All games in the Missouri American Legion A State Tournament on Friday at Ballwin were pushed back due to rain.

Four games are on tap today, starting with a pair of elimination games. Washington will face Eureka Post 177 at noon, followed by the Jefferson City-Ste. Genevieve game at 2:30 p.m. The winners of those games will play at 7:30 p.m.

In the winner's bracket, Kirkwood Post 156 and Jackson Post 158 will face off at 5 p.m.

The tournament championship game is slated for 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Post 5 Seniors were scheduled to play a scrimmage Friday night at Vivion Field against the Jefferson City Renegades of the MINK League, but it was also canceled due to the weather.

As the only Legion team in District 8, the Post 5 Seniors automatically advance to next week's Zone 1 Tournament.

The complete tournament schedule will be announced next week.
