MOKANE - The Calvary Lutheran Lions began the South Callaway Tournament with a 71-62 loss Tuesday to the New Haven Shamrocks.
New Haven led 19-9 at the end of one quarter, 36-26 at halftime and 58-42 through three quarters. Calvary Lutheran won the scoring battle 20-13 in the fourth quarter to cut the final margin to single digits.
Morgan Allen led the Lions with 27 points, while Jonathan Lieb finished with 13 points.
Calvary Lutheran (6-3), the No. 6 seed, will face seventh-seeded South Callaway at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the loser's bracket semifinals at South Callaway Middle School.
