Prep Baseball: Fatima 8, Hallsville 1

HALLSVILLE - Evan Kliethermes pitched a complete game Thursday for the Fatima Comets, leading them to an 8-1 non-conference win against the Hallsville Indians.

Kliethermes walked three and struck out three, throwing 104 pitches in seven innings. He held the Indians to five hits, all singles.

Fatima scored three runs, all on errors, in the first inning. Jake Boyce and Dawson Woehr had back-to-back RBI singles in the third to extend the lead to 5-0.

In the fourth, the Comets tacked on three more runs, getting an RBI double from Dean Hagenhoff and another RBI singel from Boyce.

Hallsville (5-3) scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Ayden Lampkins.

Boyce led the Fatima hitting attack, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Hagenhoff finished with two hits.

The Comets had a late-inning rally come up short Tuesday in a 5-4 loss to the Hickman Kewpies in Columbia.

Hickman led 5-2 through three innings, but Fatima cut that lead to one on a two-run single with two outs by Blake Gentges.

Hagenhoff drew a leadoff walk in the seventh and advanced all the way to third base for the Comets, but the Kewpies were able to get a strikeout to end the game.

Shane Verslues had an RBI single for Fatima, while Woehr, Hagenhoff and Dalton Gentges each had a single.

Gage Cunningham was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs on four hits in five innings with one walk and two strikeouts. Max Buscher pitched a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one while allowing one hit.

Fatima (8-2), ranked No. 9 in Class 4 by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association, plays a Show-Me Conference game today at Eugene.
