Prep Baseball: Eugene 8, Jamestown 3

EUGENE - A four-run fourth inning helped propel the Eugene Eagles to an 8-1 win Thursday against the Jamestown Eagles.

Tyler Renn capped Eugene's big inning with a two-run single. He finished 3-for-4 and drove in four runs, adding a two-run home run to center field in the sixth.

That was more than enough help for Ethan Hogard, who pitched six scoreless innings of relief for Eugene to earn the win. Hogard scattered four hits and walked one and struck out three, throwing just 64 pitches.

Hogard also benefited from the Eugene defense turning a triple play in the fourth inning.

Drew Sommerer finished with a single and a double, while Colby Renn had a pair of singles for Eugene.

Jamestown scored its three runs in the top of the first inning. Gage Reynolds had an RBI single, while Mack Sorrells and Bradley Schoenthal each hit a sacrifice fly.

Sorrells pitched three-plus innings for Jamestown, walking five and striking out four. Tristan Jones threw three innings of relief, walking one.

Eugene (7-3), which is receiving votes in Class 2 of the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association state rankings, hosts Fatima in a Show-Me Conference matchup today.

Jamestown (4-3), which won 8-7 Wednesday against Prairie Home/Bunceton, will host Tuscumbia on Monday.
