Helias duo blank Smith-Cotton in softball

SEDALIA, Mo. - Alexa Rehmeier and Molly Berkey combined for a two-hit shutout Monday as the Helias Lady Crusaders blanked the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers 6-0 in Central Missouri Activities Conference action.

Rehmeier pitched the first six innings, allowing a hit and a walk while recording eight strikeouts to get the win. Berkey gave up a hit to the Lady Tigers in the seventh.

Helias scored two runs in the the second, sixth and seventh innings.

In the second, Paige Schaffer led off with a single and courtesy runner Karoline Klebba stole second. One out later, Ella Meyer singled to left to score Klebba. Berkey followed with a double to plate Meyer to make it 2-0.

Schaffer reached on an error to lead off the sixth. Klebba came on to steal second and advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on a Kendyll Rackers grounder. Meyer then singled, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball before scoring on a Berkey single.

In the seventh, Payton Dudenhoeffer hit a one-out single before scoring on a double by Mallorey Rogers. Schaeffer then singled to score Rogers with the final run of the game.

Helias had 12 hits in the game. Schaffer led with three hits. Rogers, Meyer and Berkey added two each.

Helias (7-3 overall, 2-0 CMAC) is back in action today against Blair Oaks (4-0) at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex. The varsity game will start at 5 p.m.
