REPUBLIC - It was a good first half for the Helias Crusaders. It was a better second half for the Republic Tigers.
Republic outscored Helias 35-13 in the second half Tuesday, handing the Crusaders a 60-42 loss in their season opener.
Helias led 12-11 after one quarter and 29-26 at halftime, but foul trouble played a key role in the Crusaders' struggles in the second half.
Malcolm Davis led Helias with 18 points. Desmond White and Jacob Rembecki each had 10 points.
Helias (0-1) is off until next Thursday, when it opens the Willard Classic against the host Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
In the JV game, Republic defeated Helias 57-45.
Zach Wieberg led the Crusaders (0-1) with 14 points and Landon King added 12 points.
