Davidson tops boys field at Junior Match Play Championship

BOLIVAR - Jefferson City's Michael Davidson has found himself atop the leaderboard Monday after first-round qualifying in the Missouri Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship at Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club.

Davidson leads the 83 qualifiers in the boys division after shooting a 3-under 69. He finished his round with four birdies and just one bogey.

Shelbina's Kanon Kendrick is second after carding a 2-under 70. Miller's Presten Richardson, the defending boys Junior Match Play champion, is one of three golfers who shot a 1-under 71.

Jefferson City's Alex Gentry is tied for 10th place, shooting a 3-over 75 on Monday. He posted two birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey.

Jefferson City's Drew Higgins is tied for 18th with a 5-over 77, finishing his round with three birdies, six bogeys and one double-bogey.

Jefferson City's Archer Schnieders is tied for 34th with an 8-over 80. He posted 10 pars and eight bogeys in his round.

Eldon's Aidan Wells is tied for 51st with an 11-over 83, shooting five bogeys and three double-bogeys.

Ashland's Jacob Anderson is tied for 68th with a 17-over 89. He finished with 11 bogeys and three double-bogeys.

In the girls division, Jackson's Taryn Overstreet has the lead after Monday's first round, finishing with an even-par 72. She posted four birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey in her first qualifying round.

Columbia's Audrey Rischer, the defending girls Junior Match Play champion, is second with a 2-over 74.

Jefferson City's Greta Hinds is alone in sixth place after shooting a 5-over 77. In her round, she carded one birdie and six bogeys.

Hinds reached the semifinals during the match-play format of last year's championship.

Eldon's Kassidy Hull is tied for ninth out of 29 golfers in the girls division with a 7-over-79. She had three birdies, eight bogeys and one double-bogey in her round.

Jefferson City's Camryn Swinfard is 26th with a 21-over 93, followed by Wardsville's Elliott Hull, who is 27th with a 24-over 96. Swinfard had five pars and six bogeys in her round, while Hull had one birdie, three pars and seven bogeys.

The qualifying round of the Junior Match Play concludes after today's round of 18 holes.

The top 16 scores for each the boys and girls from the 36-hole qualifying will advance to the match play rounds, which begin Wednesday.
