Russellville JV splits with Fatima JV, Hermann in tourney

RUSSELLVILLE - The Russellville JV team went 1-1 on Tuesday's opening day of the Russellville Tournament.

The Indians began the tournament with a 7-6 win in eight innings against Fatima's JV team in the play-in game.

Russellville led 5-3 through six innings, but Fatima scored twice in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.

With the international rule now in effect, the Comets scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead.

The Indians answered with two runs in the bottom half, ending the game with a walk-off RBI single by Luke Oligschlaeger.

Alex Oligschlaeger went 4-for-4 with three singles and a double for Russellville, while Christopher Seaver and Luke Oligschlaeger each had two singles.

Alex Oligschlaeger was also the winning pitcher for the Indians, throwing the eighth inning. Christopher Seaver struck out seven batters in five innings of relief for Luke Oligschlaeger, who had one strikeout in two innings.

Russellville then dropped a 12-2 decision in four innings against Hermann in a first-round game Tuesday.

Alex Oligschlaeger had a two-run single in the third inning for Russellville. Jake Schulte and Josiah Herman each had singles for the Indians.

Russellville will play Fatima's varsity team in an elimination game at 10 a.m. today.
