MSHSAA to allow fall sports teams to play in spring

Another option has been made available for high school teams that aren't able to continue a traditional fall season.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association announced Thursday schools can decide to have one or more of its fall sports teams participate in the spring.

"The traditional seasons are still being offered at this time for those schools able to participate," MSHSAA executive director Dr. Kerwin Urhahn said. "Today's action by the Board of Directors puts into place a plan of action our staff devised in the event a school is not able to participate partially or in whole. This could give those students an opportunity to complete a season in their sport."

In what is being referred to as the alternate fall season, the first competition will be allowed to begin March 12 with the season ending May 1.

If a school chooses to use the alternate fall season, all of its spring sports will be moved to the alternate spring season, which begins May 14 and concludes July 10. Schools may opt out of any alternate spring sport season by contacting the MSHSAA office.

At this time, the winter season schedule remains the same with practice beginning Nov. 2.
