Potts' near triple-double leads Lincoln in win at Missouri S&T

ROLLA - The Lincoln men's basketball team opened Wednesday's game on a 6-0 run and never trailed in a 66-55 victory against Missouri S&T.

Marcell Burton scored the game's first basket on the opening possession and Cameron Potts added two layups for a 6-0 lead about two minutes into the game.

Lamont Ballard later made a pair of 3-pointers on a 12-0 run to extend the lead to 22-8.

Lincoln led 35-17 at halftime.

Missouri S&T pulled to within 55-52 on a Jordan Newton 3-pointer with 3:15 remaining, but Lincoln outscored the Miners 11-3 the rest of the way.

Potts finished one rebound short of a triple-double, ending up with 15 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists.

Jonell Burton scored a game-high 17 points, Marcel Burton added 12 points and seven rebounds and Ballard scored 10 points.

Lincoln knocked in 49.1 percent of its shots, making 28-of-57 from the floor despite shooting 3-of-16 from 3-point range.

Missouri S&T shot 21-of-67 (31.3 percent), including 8-of-32 (25 percent) from long range.

Chima Oduocha and Yahmir Muhammad scored 16 points each to lead the Miners.

Lincoln (2-1) plays its first home game of the season Monday in an exhibition contest against Livin' The Dream. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Jason Gym.
