Dear Editor:

Your article on school bus staffing problems (Sept. 21) has reminded me how important school bus drivers are. School bus drivers are responsible for the safety of many children daily. This is a very important responsibility. However, bus drivers can also play an important role in the daily lives of those on his/her bus.

Most of the time the bus driver is the first and last person these students see on a school day. I hope each and every driver knows how important their position really is. They can make or break a day for that child.

Being a pleasant and happy role model in the morning can encourage the child to have a good day in school. And, being a concerned individual after school can make them feel good as they head home. No one really knows how far a kind word will go for a kid (kindergarten - high school) as they start and end their day at school.

Thank you for being willing to work in such an important position. I pray to God for your safety and the safety and happiness of the many kids you touch daily.

Always know how important you really are!
