Your Opinion: School board's property purchase

Jefferson City

Dear Editor:

I just recently read that the school board of Jefferson City had just recently purchased 30 of the houses that were destroyed by the tornado.

Did you know that they are property tax exempt, so we here we go again with less property taxes to be paid to the City of Jefferson, Cole County and the state? And then they may come to us the public for another tax increase?

What was the purpose of the school board purchasing these houses? Have they now gone into the real estate business? The reason behind this purchase should be made public since it is our tax dollars that we paid for the education of children that was used to purchase these houses.

Is the school board being a responsible steward of these monies? They need to be made accountable to the public.
