KANSAS CITY, Mo (AP) - A driver has died in a fiery crash in Kansas City that also injured two police officers and a firefighter who were attempting to rescue the driver, authorities said.
The crash happened Sunday afternoon on Northwest Roanridge Road after a northbound car missed a curve in the road, flew down an embankment and flipped before catching fire, police said in a news release.
The driver was trapped in the burning wreckage. Police said officers, firefighters and bystanders tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire and rescue the driver, who died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
Two officers and a firefighter were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the rescue attempt.
Two dogs were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and both were thrown from the car, police said. A German Shepherd died in the scene, and a Jack Russell was rescued and taken the county's animal control impound.
