Boy, 11, struck and killed trying to cross interstate

ST. LOUIS (AP) - An 11-year-old boy is dead after being struck by a car while trying to walk across a busy suburban St. Louis interstate highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident happened just before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in western St. Louis County. The child's name has not been released.

The patrol crash report says the boy was walking across the southbound lanes. He stopped in a lane of traffic and was struck by a car driven by a 24-year-old woman.

The child was pronounced dead by emergency responders at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
