Linn PD given funds to start K9 unit

The Linn Police Department is receiving funds to help get a K9 unit started.

AKC Reunite, which identifies itself as the largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service provider in the United States, announced Monday a $7,500 donation was given to the Linn Police Department through its AKC Reunite Adopt a K-9 Cop matching grant program.

Funds were raised by contributions from the Show Me Agility Club of Central Missouri and community members, with AKC Reunite matching donations at a 3-to-1 ratio.

Linn Police Department officials hope to use the funds and the new unit to help remove illegal narcotics in the community.

Linn Police Chief Michael Bickell said in news release, “Without programs such as this, we would not have been able to make our K9 program possible.”

Vicki Miller, of the Show Me Agility Club of Central Missouri, added, “K9 police dogs are so valuable in keeping our city safe, and we are thrilled to help our local police department acquire a new K9 officer.”

Forty-six Adopt a K-9 Cop grants have been awarded since the inception of the program.
