Comprehensive plan open house scheduled Thursday

Jefferson City residents will be able to discuss, learn and give input on the city's 20-year comprehensive plan during an open house this week.

The outdoor event will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at McClung Park.

The comprehensive plan outlines the city's direction. It is not a step-by-step guide but a general idea.

A draft of the plan can be viewed on the city's website, jeffersoncitymo.gov. Organizers also will offer information at the event.

This week's open house will help round out the public comment period for the 2040 plan, which closes March 31.

As part of the open house, visitors will be able view photographs submitted during the process. The "Love Where You Live" contest invited community members to submit photographs for the comprehensive plan. Some of the photographs will be included in the final version of the plan.

"The idea is that attendees will be able to appreciate why living in Jefferson City is special and be able to prioritize strategies for the future," said Ahnna Nanoski, a planner with the city's Department of Planning and Protective Services who has been working on the comprehensive plan.
