Jefferson City woman dies after boating accident

A Jefferson City woman died Saturday after she was thrown out of a boat as it was traveling along the Missouri River.

Tanna R. Henson, 48, was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m. at University Hospital in Columbia following the 7 p.m. mishap at the 142-mile marker of the Missouri River in Callaway County.

She was seated in the boat as a passenger when it hit an unknown object in the water, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report.

The driver of the boat, 51-year-old Scotty J. Smallwood, of Lohman, also was thrown into the water from his seat. He received moderate injuries. Both occupants were transported to University Hospital via ambulance.
