Osage County sheriff warns of Amazon scam

The Osage County Sheriff's Office has received information from county residents about an Amazon scam.

Apparently scammers are calling residents, claiming to be calling from the tech giant "Amazon" telling people that charges have been made with their credit card and that card information need to be verified.

Authorities tell residents they should never provide credit card information to people who call them.

"Criminals can claim to be from your card issuer, bank or vendor and ask for your personal information," Osage County Sheriff Mike Bonham said in a news release. "Only give credit card information out to vendors that you initiated the phone call with, i.e., shopping online."

If you believe you have received a call like this, call the Osage County Sheriff's Office at 573-897-3927
