Special Olympics Missouri is to host a bocce tournament at the Training for Life Campus.
Fifty four-person teams from across the state are signed up for the nonprofit's Super Hero Bocce Tournament, which is set for Aug. 28. Learn more on the SOMO website. (https://somo.org/calendar/super-hero-bocce-tournament/)
The SOMO event is to occur in five flights, made up of Central Missouri, St. Louis and Kansas City teams. Staff members at SOMO are to assign a Special Olympics athlete to each team.
The partnership gives the athletes opportunities to meet community members and share their stories. It also gives community members chances to meet and interact with the athletes, to learn more about someone who has an intellectual disability.
The annual tournament - this is the seventh - has been fun for all participants, according to Carol Griffith, SOMO health partnership manager.
The fundraiser will also feature music, barbecue (offered by Wardsville Lions Club volunteers), a cash bar provided by Shrunken Head Mobile Bar & Tropical Drinks, a silent auction and a "drive-it-home" raffle for a car, trips and cash prizes.
Proceeds to benefit SOMO State Outdoors Games.
