New Bloomfield man sentenced to 135 years in child molestation case

A New Bloomfield man was sentenced to 135 years in prison in connection with a child molestation case in Callaway County.

Jarrad Ryan Vandergrift, 39, was sentenced on three counts of first-degree child molestation and three counts of first-degree statutory sodomy.

After a three-day trial in February, a Callaway County jury found Vandergrift guilty of committing the offenses against a female child at various times from 2009-18.

According to the Callaway County Prosecutor's Office, the child was 14 years old when she disclosed the sexual abuse to a school counselor in April 2019. The child testified about the abuse at the trial. Her school counselor also testified regarding the circumstances surrounding the disclosure. As part of the investigation, the child underwent a forensic medical exam. The physician who conducted that examination testified to the physical findings that were consistent with the child's account.

On Wednesday, Callaway County Judge Jeff Harris sentenced Vandergrift to 15 years on each count of child molestation and 30 years on each count of statutory sodomy, all sentences to be served consecutively to each other, for a total of 135 years.
