Visiting at local prison suspended due to COVID-19 case

Visiting has been suspended at Algoa Correctional Center in Jefferson City after surveillance testing for coronavirus found a positive case in an offender, according to the Department of Corrections.

DOC said in a news release Thursday that visiting is suspended at Algoa until further notice.

Since the department announced Sept. 14 that visiting at Jefferson City Correctional Center had also been suspended because of two cases among offenders, the list of facilities offering visiting has shrunk from five - including Algoa - to two.

Moberly Correctional Center and St. Joseph's Western Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center also were no longer listed Thursday as accepting visits, leaving only Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston and the Kansas City Re-entry Center.

DOC data Thursday showed 14 active cases at Jefferson City Correctional Center - seven among staff and seven among offenders. Two staff had recovered.

Algoa had previously had two staff and an offender test positive - all since recovered.

One active staff case and eight active offender cases were listed at Cremer Therapeutic Community Center in Fulton.

Ten active staff cases and 15 active offender cases were listed at Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center.

Six active staff cases and 18 active offender cases were listed at Tipton Correctional Center.
