CALIFORNIA, Mo. -- The California Board of Aldermen met for its regular monthly meeting Sept. 8 in advance of a public hearing regarding the annexation of land on the outskirts of the city limits.
The small tract of land, owned by Village Green Shopping Center, lies on the west side of the Windmill Ridge subdivision and encompasses a little more than 5 acres.
There were no comments or objections at the public hearing, which took place Sept. 10, but any such comments may be filed in writing no later than 14 days after the hearing date. Otherwise, the land will be annexed to the city.
At the Board of Aldermen meeting, city staff took care of regular business, including the approval of some bids. A sole source bid for a lift station replacement at the Industrial Park through Vandevanter Engineering was approved at $99,428 - the project had a budget of $102,000 through the city's capital improvement fund. A "sole source" bid in this case means it will be uniform with the rest of the city's stations.
The board also approved a quote for winter road salt through Independent Salt Company for $77.83 per ton, as well as a new snow plow purchase through Knapheide at $7,182.
Two of the city's certificate of deposit accounts are set to mature in October and will go out for bids in advance of the next board meeting.
In department business, the board agreed to continue with the one week on, one week off rotation at the city's wastewater treatment plant, as coronavirus cases continue to stay steady in Moniteau County.
For parks and recreation, private parties will start being allowed at the city pool again but no private swim lessons for now. California Schools will use the pool for its swim lessons. The city will also begin recreational baseball signups soon.
In other business, the city approved allowing the Pintos Quarterback Club to have fireworks at home football games this fall. There are two more home games on the schedule for this season following last Friday's home tilt against Blair Oaks, one this week and one in October.
The Board of Aldermen will be back to its regular meeting time and date next month, with the next meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 5.
